Alan Sykes



Alan began playing the organ at the age of 15, under the tutelage of Magnus Black at Doncaster Parish Church. He became the first organ scholar of the University of Sussex in 1967 under the wing of John Birch of Chichester Cathedral.
He has been one of the team of organists at Sketty Methodist Church since 1980. In 2003 he re-started organ studies with Dr. William Reynolds at St Mary's Church, Swansea, attaining a distinction at Grade 8 in January 2004 and a diploma (DipABRSM) in March 2005. Since then he has contributed regularly to music at St Mary's Swansea, for services, concerts and recitals and this year accompanied the choir for Evensong at Exeter Cathedral. He also sings with the Gower Chorale and is their assistant musical director.
